Hillel Ottawa is steadfastly committed to the support of Israel as a Jewish and Democratic State with secure and recognized borders and as a member of the family of free nations. In recent times the dialogue on Israel on Ottawa university campuses has become increasingly heated. At Hillel Ottawa we provide a safe space for students to express a wide spectrum of views regarding their relationships with Israel. We have a fully dedicated Israel Awareness Coordinator to work with student leadership to promote dialogue and support the student advocacy efforts on campus.
Israel Awareness Committee
On campus the university student association, the Israel Awareness Committee, prepares student leaders for engaging in Israel advocacy by not only promoting Israel but by answering common criticisms. Students are given the opportunity to engage in mock engagement sessions, in preparation to defend Israel on their campus.
Student leadership engages members of parliament to speak to students, faculty and community members to show their support for the state of Israel. This past year students had the opportunity to meet and speak with Hon. John Baird, MP Joe Volpe, MP Jeff Watson, and MP Marlene Jennings at our bi-annual Israeli Wine and Canadian Cheese events.
The IAC builds coalitions on campus and on a national and international level. Only though continued partnerships can we build a successful campus culture of open dialogue.
